The Time Capsule was buried on September 12, 1992 by the First State Bank of Denton, Texas. It was to be opened 20 years later on September 12, 2012. For unknown reasons, that did not happen. On September 13, at 12:01 AM, citizens gathered for a ceremony to reflect on how the real gift of the time capsule was not the items inside but the way it brought together the people of Denton to mourn the fact that it was never opened.
